fastBREAK - Power

The 2010 fastBREAK innovation series is an exciting addition to Sydney's event calendar that has sent a buzz through local creative and entrepreneurial communities, injecting life, inspiration and a flurry of fastBREAKing conversation into the Powerhouse Museum's best-kept secret, the Boiler room Mezzanine. At each fastBREAK session, on the last Friday of each month, five sharp young industry leaders from various sectors tackle big questions and topics with five-minute responses around themes of creativity, commercialisation, collaboration, connections and conversation. Innovation is the staple of the fastBREAK menu.

With a focus on intergenerational exchange and dialogue, fastBREAK is a unique opportunity for conversations outside the ordinary - an opportunity for emerging young masterminds from a range of disciplines to be heard and to brush shoulders with decision-makers from corporate and non-profit organisations.

At the next fastBREAK hear from:

·         Rich Fogarty is the Founder and Director of Concrete Playground, an online publication which shortlists interesting cultural news, events and trends for a young and restless audience. He recently published Conspirators: A Snapshot of Sydneys Creative Community, and produced a series of short films and an accompanying art event showcasing Sydney’s best young creative people as part of the project. Previously, Rich managed marketing and strategy for brands like Converse, Virgin and Volkswagen, most recently at Anomaly New York – judged by Fast Company as one of the 25 Most Innovative Companies in the World.

·         Jenni Illoski is currently developing the Green Light Movement. Green Light Movement (GLM), is a learn to drive program, that offers professional driver education and supervised driver training to young people, who do not have parent or guardian support and  live in medium –long term accommodation in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney.  Jenni believes that breaking down the barriers to completing the 120 hours of supervised driving required for a Provisional License, promotes greater equity in young people accessing employment opportunities, important community services, and social networks.

·         Ant McPhail initially studied Photography and Design at COFA/UNSW and transferred to a Bachelor of Digital Media with honours majoring in Digital Production & Post Production. His photographic work was handpicked by Marc Newson as a key image to represent the international “SOYA” Awards and his video art has been displayed at the Art Gallery of NSW.

·         Vannessa Cullen is the managing Director of Forward Thinking Design; an interior architecture studio specialising in retail and hospitality design. Vanessa grew her business organically from a sole trader start-up to the growing, award-winning company it is today. Vanessa is an Accredited Member of the Design Institute of Australia and holds a Bachelor of Design with Honours and Graduate Diploma in Museum Studies. In 2009 she was named in Anthill Magazine’s “30Under30” Young Entrepreneurs, and Forward Thinking Design was the runner up in Anthill’s ‘Cool Company Commercial Creativity Award’.
